This is not a political poem

vote_with_check_for_v_wikipedia_commonsI’ve been writing poetry again. On the eve of the US Presidential election, I offer you my latest. And remember, this is not a political poem.

This is not a political poem

They say we live in a post-fact world
So I can get away with telling you
This is not a political poem
If I say it often enough
Aggressively enough
People will start to believe
This is not a political poem

The fact-checking agencies might rate
Seventy-eight percent of this poem to be untrue
But I don’t care
I will have already
Won my audience
And I will keep insisting
This is not a political poem

You’ll accuse me
Of writing party-political poetry
And I’ll say
You’re lying
You’re part of the rigged system
You’re part of the crooked media
This is not a political poem

By the time the obsolete fact-checkers
Call my bluff
Like shriveled men in plaid pants
Grumbling about the weather
I will have moved on
I will be writing another poem
Another appeal to emotion
Disconnecting from the details
Repeating my assertions
Ignoring the facts
Because it’s none of your business
This is not a political poem

It’s so easy to do
Wikipedia tells me how
It’s freeing
Like a weight off my shoulders
I can say anything
Nobody will hold me accountable
Nobody listens to those plaid-panted men
Arguing for truth
I can spread any story I want
It will go viral
So now I’m telling you
Once again
And forever
This is not a political poem

Nice unpolitical political poem. I hope people vote wisely, if there are any wise people left in America……THIS too is not a political comment. Lol.
